Clear the leaves
Fallen leaves left on a lawn block light and encourage disease and moss. Rake regularly, and add the leaves to a compost heap or bin for leaf mould.
Give the lawn a final cut
Raise your mower blade slightly and give the lawn its last couple of cuts as growth slows. Tidy the edges for a crisp finish.
Trim hedges and cut back borders
A late-season hedge trim keeps things tidy. Before trimming, check for nesting birds. Cut back spent perennials and remove weeds before they set seed.
Clear gutters and paths
Wet leaves can make paths slippery and block drains and gutters. A quick clear now prevents overflow and damp problems later.
